I have never been one to sit down and plan out my menus. But I have recently seen the light! I have discovered that if I use my meal planner (I use one designed by Gina Homolka of Skinnytaste.com) the following is always true:
- I know exactly what I am making for dinner each night. I don’t have to think about it and I don’t have to stress about it.
- I make my shopping list as I go through the recipes. This way I have shopped for, and have on hand, the ingredients I need. No more last minute running to the store for that one thing I don’t have on hand.
- I don’t give in to my cravings…the little voice in my head that says, “I know you planned a healthy and delicious meal, but what you really want is a nice juicy burger and fries.”
- I don’t have to scramble around and try to make something edible out of whatever might be stuck in the back of the freezer or pantry…who knows how long those things have even been there?
It has made things much easier and if I stick with meal planning, then Dale and I stick with our weight loss plan…they really do go hand in hand. I recommend giving it a try if you aren’t currently a meal planner. Oh, and by the way, it’s also a great way to find and try new recipes. I have been much more creative since I started doing this. It just takes a few minutes a week and it is well worth the time.
